Reach Truck
To be able to keep storage places orderly and to pile up supplies and pallets of goods, a reach truck could be used. The reach truck comes in several models: the stand-up reach, double-deep reach and straddle reach.
The stand-up is the simplest. The truck forks slide under the pallet and move it to the correct storage place. The forks slide the pallet into place. This kind of reach truck is recommended when shelving units are just one pallet deep.
The double-deep reach truck is similar to the stand-up, but is best for workplaces where shelving units are deep enough to have two pallets of goods. This model has telescopic forks designed to place the pallet at the back of the shelving unit. This saves having to push the pallet back when one more pallet has to go into the same shelving section.
Straddle reaches have the added advantage of being able to not just slide beneath the pallet, but also to grasp the sides. These are recommended for workplaces where shelving units are accessible in multiple directions. This particular model is ideal in situations where goods would not be damaged if the sides of the pallet are grabbed.
In the majority of warehouses, there are usually more than one type of reach truck. Manufacturing facilities and textile firms use various types of reach trucks in their supply areas. The reach truck is not difficult to use and can increase production while making the most of available storage space.
