Classifications of Aerial Lift Platforms & Scissor Lifts
Scissor lifts consist of a series of crisscrossed steel arms, linked up to make an X pattern. When the crisscrossed arms are extended, the platform is raised vertically. There are support railings along the edges of the lifting mechanism to be able to help secure the workers' tools and keep them safe.
Scissor lifts provide a low profile which is ideal for hard dirt surfaces, concrete and pavement. These equipment utilize either an electric motor or a combustion engine in order to move the lift and power the lifting apparatus. The operator must move the lift itself if she or he needs to travel horizontally, as the lift mechanism only operates the lift vertically.
Rough Terrain Scissor Lift
Rough terrain scissor lifts use the identical lifting technology as a regular scissor lift. The key difference is that the rough terrain units feature a different base which is specifically made for uneven surfaces. These models also offer higher ground clearance and oversized all terrain tires. The rough terrain scissor lifts use 4-wheel drive in order to easily navigate through muddy and difficult terrain.
Telescopic Boom Lift
Telescopic booms are designed to be elevated both vertically and diagonally. This unit has a small work platform that houses controls to be able to operate the boom. The controls work with a combustion engine so as to power the hydraulics that move the lift and power the boom. The telescopic boom lift is an independent lift model and has off-road capable tires.
Articulating Boom Lift
There are two telescopic booms on the articulating boom lift. These are attached with a moving elbow apparatus. This lifting machinery has a small work platform or a bucket which is equipped with hand controls to be able to control the boom. These are stand-alone lifts that are powered by a combustion engine. Articulating boom lifts are available with either hard surface or off-road tires. These lifts are made to be able to reach on top of and over top of buildings.
Aerial Mast Lift
In order to raise a work platform vertically into the air, the aerial mast lift utilizes a telescopic mast. The lift is normally powered electrically or pneumatically and are self-propelled units. These equipment offer a great solution for working in high racks in narrow warehouse aisles. It is very vital to note that aerial mast lifts are limited to vertical movement and are not recommended for off-road use.
