Lift Truck Parts in More Detail
A lift truck is made of thousands of components. The key parts that make up a lift truck are the frame of the truck, the engine components, the overhead guard, the wheels and the tilt cylinders. What's more, a lift truck has different kinds of attachments. All the components which make up a forklift are all important because they work together to make the operation of the equipment possible. The next paragraphs describe in detail a few of the forklift components.
The Overhead Guard - this guard forms the lift truck's metal roof. It sits above the cab area and protects the equipment operator while she or he is sitting and driving. The overhead guard ensures that nothing falling from above onto the truck will damage the controls in the cab or hurt the operator. The overhead guard is integral to the frame assembly on some units.
The Mast - the mast is a vertical assembly made of interlocking rails and mounted either to the forklift frame or the front axle. The mast provides lateral stability and allows the forks to move upwards and down. The interlocking rails could either have bushings or bushings as guides. There are a couple of ways the mast could be operated: chain operated with motive power provided by a hydraulic motor or hydraulically by one or more hydraulic cylinders.
Lift Truck Carriage - the forks and other kinds of attachments are mounted to the carriage. The carriage is attached to the mast directly to the hydraulic cylinder or it is connected by chains. In order to allow the forks to be raised and lowered, the carriage can have either rollers or bushings to guide it in the interlocking mast rails.
Load Back Rest - a back rest is a metal rack that keeps a load from falling backwards when the carriage is raised to its full height. The back rest is either bolted or welded on to the carriage.
Lift Truck Attachments - There are many kinds of attachments which can be fixed directly to the lift truck's carriage. Forks are the most common type of attachment. Furthermore, there are rotators, rollers, L-shaped members, pole handlers, roll clamps and and all that. These various attachments are helpful for moving various kinds of loads.
